ANOTHER MAN KILLED IN RUFIJI ON THE EVE OF IGP's VISIT
Rufiji. A 37 year old man, Erick Mwarabu, resident of Kifuru in Kazamoyo division in the district was shot dead by unknown men after they broke into his house.
One of the neighbours told The Citizen the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. One of the witness (name withheld), said after the men broke into Mr Mwarabu’s house they went straight to his bedroom, where they found him hiding under the bed.
“They found Mr Mwarabu hiding under his bed, according to Mr Mwarabu’s wife. They shot him three times,” he said.
He further said that after killing Mr Mwarabu, who was a local militia, the assailants fled without taking any property.
Coast Regional Police Commander Onesmo Lyanga said the police are investigating the incident.
Ikwiriri health center medical officer Dr Iddy Malinda said preliminary examination found the deceased’s body with three gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Inspector General of Police Mr Simon Sirro arrived at Kibiti a few hours after the killing. He was expected to speak to wananchi. The main agenda was expected to be the escalating killings in Kibiti, Rufiji and Ikwiriri districts.
Mwarabu becomes the 33rd person to be killed by unknown gunmen who have issued warnings that they will continue executing leaders they accuse of harassing people and injustice. Among those killed includes 11 police officers.
The killers have in several incidents uttered verbal warning or left notices at the crime scenes stating why they will continue with the killings.
